Breaking the Legacy Bottleneck in Furniture Retail
The traditional furniture sector stands at a critical digital crossroads. Consumer preferences evolve at unprecedented speeds, yet many retailers remain constrained by rigid legacy IT systems and outdated, manual workflows. Consequently, companies lose direct connection with their customer base and spend valuable resources reacting to shifts rather than leading them. To drive sustainable industry transformation, enterprise platforms must pair deep vertical expertise with agile, scalable software architectures.
At shoring.io, our goal is to deliver measurable economic value by modernizing digital commerce infrastructure for the home and living sector. To accelerate this strategy, we are proud to welcome Tom Blackschleger to our leadership team as Product Lead.
Meet Tom Blackschleger: A High 5 Q&A
Tom brings deep domain experience from within the furniture industry alongside a strong track record of technological execution. We sat down with him for a quick "High 5" interview to discuss market dynamics, strategic priorities, and his vision for the product.
Why did you choose to join shoring.io?
Because we are building the precise technology that the furniture industry currently lacks. The market holds immense untapped digital potential, and the strategic vision at shoring.io convinced me that we can drive genuine, structural transformation across the entire value chain.
Given your deep background in the furniture market, what is the single biggest challenge companies face today?
The primary issue is that retailers have lost direct touchpoints with their customers. Trends are identified too late, forcing businesses to operate reactively rather than proactively shaping demand. Outdated operational playbooks simply fail to yield results in today's market. The core obstacle rests in legacy systems: inflexible infrastructure and paper-heavy workflows prevent companies from seamlessly adopting modern, data-driven software alternatives.
What is your main mission as Technical Product Lead?
My objective is to advance our product platform so that it directly solves the daily operational friction experienced by retailers, suppliers, and end consumers. I am focused on building a strategic roadmap designed around tangible ROI and business value, rather than merely checking off feature releases for the sake of delivery.
What excites you most about working with your new team?
The execution speed and joint commitment to moving fast. From our very first conversations, it was clear that shoring.io maintains a pragmatic, hands-on culture with genuine drive to push boundaries. That level of focus is energizing.
On a personal note: What is your favorite piece of furniture?
Without a doubt, the sofa. After a demanding work day, there is nothing better than putting my feet up on the ottoman and watching a series with my wife. Though if I am being completely transparent, every time I walk through furniture retail stores lately, I find myself lingering near the outdoor pizza ovens. An Ooni oven is currently at the top of my wishlist.
Building the Future of Vertical Enterprise Software
Integrating seasoned industry leaders like Tom into our product organization directly strengthens our mission. Solving deep domain challenges requires a tight coupling of market understanding and modern tech stacks. By dismantling legacy barriers and delivering data-driven tools, we continue to give retailers and suppliers the tools required to own their customer relationships.
We look forward to achieving great milestones together with Tom as we build the future of furniture retail infrastructure.
We’re always open for a first conversation. No pitch, just a real exchange.
